Niamh Kenny, MD from NMK Renewables spoke to the North Cork Business Alliance about the role of small businesses in combatting climate change. The presentation concentrated on the small steps that local businesses can take to reduce their emissions and de-carbonise their businesses. Niamh used the CLIMATE acronym to describe these steps.

The Mallow Chamber of Commerce subsequently co-hosted an event with AIB on the topic of sustainability. John McGeown head of sustainability with AIB spoke about the bank’s move towards de-carbonisation and the various schemes they have in place to support small and medium businesses. His presentation was followed by a challenging presentation by Niamh Kenny, entitled ‘Can Mallow become a zero carbon town’? Niamh gave the example of Sonderborg in Denmark which is aiming to be net carbon by 2029.
